SportStack is a peer to peer exchange where users can speculate on the performance of professional athletes in every match by buying and selling shares in them.
We create a unique scoring table for each sport which defines how much an athlete will earn (or lose) for a variety of in-play contributions (e.g. goal, assist, foul) which rewards them for good performance and penalises them for poor performance.
Users can buy and sell shares in athletes throughout the week and speculate whether the current share price is too high or too low right up to the final whistle on match day!
You have a simple decision to make – is the current share price too high or too low? The better an athlete performs the more value they will earn and the higher their share price will go. At the end of the match their share price will close at the total value they earn.
For example, let’s say at the end of a match a player has earnt 60p. That means their final share price will also be 60p. If you bought shares at a lower price than 60p you have made a profit and similarly if you sold shares at a price higher than 60p you will also have made a profit!
An athlete can earn between 0p - 100p in a single match and the better they perform the more they will earn. The SportStack scoring table defines exactly how much a player will earn/lose for each contribution in a match.
The price of a player at any point in time reflects the markets best guess of how much the player is going to earn in the match. Think they will earn more than the current share price? Buy shares! Think there’s no way they will earn that much? Sell shares!
Match Markets open at the start of every week and remain open all the way through to the final whistle. You can buy and sell shares in the player all the way up to the last second of the game when the final share price is set and the market closes. Users are speculating on how much value the player will earn in that specific match between 0p – 100p.
Season Markets are Coming Soon to the SportStack platform. They work in a very similar way to Match Markets but this time the market runs 24/7 all the way through to the very end of the season. Rather than speculating on how much value a player will earn in one match you are speculating on their performance over the entire season!
The scoring table is our unique player performance system that defines how much value an athlete earns in any given match. A set value is assigned to an array of different potential contributions a player can make with positive earnings for good performance (goals, assists, etc) and negative earnings for bad performance (fouls, conceding goals, etc).
SportStack values every athlete for their performance based on their position. That way we ensure players are rewarded for what they should be contributing and not just rewarding the goalscorers! A defender could just as well earn more than a striker if their defensive performance beats the attacking performance of the striker.
Just like the stock market you will win and make a profit if you successfully buy shares and then sell them at a higher price or alternatively sell shares and then buy them back at a lower price. The profit you make will be the difference between the two prices you traded at!
Unlike spread betting products you CANNOT lose more than you place into the SportStack exchange. There is no scary margin or leverage of any kind! A user will lose money if the final share price closes at a lower price than where they bought them and similarly if the final share price closes at a higher price than they sold them.
Yes! This is one of the best features of SportStack! Think a player is overrated or past their peak? Now you can make money on being right about that by selling shares in them on SportStack. To sell a share in a player you simply need to pay the difference between 100p (maximum price) and the current share price.
For example, if you wanted to sell 1 share at 70p then for you the worst-case scenario would be that the player finishes at 100p. So, 100p – 70p = 30p. It will cost you 30p to sell 1 share in the player. Similarly, to sell a share at a market price of 25p = 100-25p = 75p.
The lowest a player can earn in a match is 0p which typically will mean they did not play. If a player does play and loses consistent negative value by, for example, committing several fouls and receiving a red card the lowest price they can earn is always set at 0p (even if they actually earnt a negative total).
The highest a player can earn in a match is 100p. We have defined this maximum value per match to enable users to freely sell shares in players and always know exactly how much they can lose. For example, if you sell 1 share at 60p your worst-case scenario is the player ends at 100p and you would lose 40p. We have designed our scoring table such that a player will only earn over 100p in less than 1% of instances. The maximum price remains set at 100p (even if they actually earn slightly more than this).
Each player position is determined by our third-party data provider Opta (Perform Group). They define the official position of every player each week and their decision will be final.
An athlete’s value is ultimately determined by our scoring table which awards a defined value for an array of contributions in a match. We integrate with a third-party data provider (Opta) to determine exactly what each player has done in real time throughout the match. This allows us to reflect the accumulated value earnt by an athlete in real time and the market can react to that incoming information as the players value changes. The decision of what an athlete has or has not done is solely based on that of Opta and their decision will be final.
To buy shares in a player simply click on the Buy price tile. Below appears a trade slip where you can enter the amount of money you would like to trade with, the number of shares you wish to buy and the price at which you’d like to buy them. Once you confirm your trade details your order will be sent to our exchange and matched with an offsetting order of other users wishing to sell at that price.
To sell shares in a player simply click on the Sell price tile. Below appears a trade slip where you can enter the amount of money you would like to trade with, the number of shares you wish to sell and the price at which you’d like to sell them. Once you confirm your trade details your order will be sent to our exchange and matched with an offsetting order of other users wishing to buy at that price.
You don’t need to already own shares to be able to sell them! If you think a players share price is too high then you can sell as many shares as you like and all you need to pay is the difference between the price you sell and your worst case outcome that the player closes at 100p. To sell shares in a player trading at 80p = 100p – 80p = 20p per share!
Once you confirm your trade the order will be immediately sent to the SportStack exchange and placed in the market. If there is already an offsetting order at the same price it will be matched instantaneously. If not, the order will remain in the market until someone else in the market matches against you. You may also occasionally have an order partially matched, this occurs when part of your order has been matched against another user but some still remains. The remainder will stay in the market until it is also matched unless you decide to cancel the balance.
